This project aims to enhance the Special Needs Dental Clinic at The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine, by upgrading equipment, expanding treatment capacity, and improving access to specialised dental care for patients with complex needs (including autism spectrum disorder, down syndrome and other special needs patients). Additionally, this project fund will support the provision of subsidised and free treatment, as well as the introduction of advanced services such as sedatio...


Expand and upgrade the Special Needs Dental Clinic at UWI, St. Augustine, which would improve access to specialized dental care for underserved patients. This is an ongoing project which requires annual working capital funding for the upkeep of modern equipment and delivery of subsidized treatment to patients with complex healthcare needs.
The Special Needs Dental Clinic delivers significant value and impact by addressing a critical gap in access to oral healthcare for individuals with complex needs across Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean. As the only university-based facility in the region dedicated exclusively to this population, it provides essential, often subsidised care to patients such as those with autism spectrum disorder, down syndrome and other special needs patients who would otherwise face substantial barri...

This is an ongoing project. The recurrent costs of providing free treatment to patients in this clinic is approximately $140,000 TTD/year
